Autumn is one of my favourite seasons, and it’s also a great time to enjoy new adventures with my dog. As the leaves change and the air gets crisp, I find myself looking forward to all the cosy, fun, and exciting activities that we can do together. Here are some of the things I can’t wait to experience with my furry friend this autumn.
Long walks through colourful woodlands
There’s something magical about walking through woodlands in autumn. The trees are ablaze with reds, oranges and yellows, and the sound of crunchy leaves underfoot adds to the experience. My dog loves exploring new scents that come with the changing season, and I love watching him bounce through piles of fallen leaves. Whether it's a walk in our local park or a weekend trip to the countryside, autumn walks are something we both look forward to.
Cosy evenings by the fire
After a brisk autumn walk, there’s nothing better than coming home and snuggling up with my dog by the fire. Autumn brings longer evenings, which means more time to relax indoors. I love wrapping myself in a blanket with a hot cup of tea, while my dog finds his spot near the warmth of the fire. These peaceful moments are perfect for unwinding and enjoying the quiet together.
Exploring dog-friendly autumn festivals
Autumn is the season of harvest festivals, pumpkin patches and outdoor markets. Many of these events are dog-friendly, making it a great opportunity to bring my dog along for the fun. I look forward to wandering through local markets, sipping on spiced cider, and letting my dog enjoy the social atmosphere. Plus, it’s always a good time to meet other dog owners and exchange tips about favourite spots to visit with our pets.
Photo sessions in the leaves
Autumn provides a beautiful backdrop for capturing photos of my dog. The golden light, colourful leaves and cooler temperatures make it ideal for outdoor photo sessions. I love taking candid shots of him playing in the leaves, as well as more posed photos that really capture the beauty of the season. Plus, my dog always seems to be extra photogenic in autumn, with his coat standing out against the vibrant foliage.
Halloween fun
As Halloween approaches, I can’t help but get excited about dressing up my dog in a cute or silly costume. Whether we’re handing out treats to trick-or-treaters or taking part in a dog-friendly Halloween event, it’s a fun way to celebrate the season together. I also enjoy making special dog-friendly Halloween treats, like pumpkin biscuits, to add a festive touch to the season.
Scented treasure hunts
With the abundance of fallen leaves and cool air, autumn is perfect for a good old-fashioned treasure hunt. I love hiding my dog’s favourite toys or treats around the garden or park and watching him use his nose to sniff them out. It’s not only a fun game for him, but it’s also a great way to engage his mind and keep him active as the weather cools down.
Preparing for winter together
Autumn is the time to start getting ready for winter, and that means stocking up on cosy dog beds, blankets, and maybe even a new jumper for my dog. I love shopping for seasonal items, making sure my dog is as comfortable and warm as possible as the temperatures drop. It’s also a good time to check his gear—like coats, leads, and reflective accessories—to ensure we’re ready for winter walks.
Autumn is a wonderful season to enjoy with your dog, filled with colourful walks, cosy nights and festive activities. Whether you’re out exploring nature or curled up at home, the bond you share with your dog is something that grows even stronger during these crisp, golden months. So grab your lead, your wellies, and your camera, and make the most of everything this autumn has to offer for you and your dog!
